High School Sweetheart & The Wrong Crowd were part of a musical experiment by vocalist Paul Goodwin in writing complete songs both vocally and instrumentally, without the benefit of being able to play an instrument or read or write music. These songs were written from the vocal melody up, once happy with the melodies, Goodwin wrote lyrics then recorded the vocal line onto a basic tape deck. From there, individual musical notes for bass and guitar were painstakingly written using a bizarre combination of a keyboard with letters written on each note, and notebook full of what could only be described as colored hieroglyphics (ones that only Goodwin could decipher).

Arriving in Calgary Canada, Goodwin sat down with high school friend Wilson who converted the odd hieroglyphics to standard sheet music. Long time band mate Portelance and another old school friend Helm came in and in 3 days the songs were recorded, overdubbed, mixed and produced, the results of which you hear here.
