"Alone, Part 1" is a solo piano piece that was recorded on March 19, 2004 in Karl's home studio, using an Apple PowerMac computer running Mark of the Unicorn's Digital Performer. The piece was played on an Alesis QS8 synthesizer equipped with the Stereo Classical Piano Q-Card, and was recorded direct-to-digital using an Alesis AI-1 and the Tascam US224 digital audio interface.

Karl lives in northeastern Massachusetts, USA with his wife and four children. He is an electrical engineer by profession, and has served in a wide variety of technical and management positions over the course of his career, working in such areas as digital signal processing, digital communications, artificial intelligence, data analysis, speech recognition, and computer system technologies.

In addition to his interests in composing and listening to progressive music, Karl enjoys playing basketball, fishing, home carpentry, live music performance, and he especially enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
